Dario: Hi Brian. What's happening?

Brian: Not much. I am trying to find something worth watching on TV.

Dario: I just spent an hour channel surfing but couldn't find anything.

Brian: The radio is the same today. There is nothing interesting to listen to.

Dario: Have you hit the Internet yet? I can usually find something worth reading there.

Brian: I am sick of the Internet. Just the same old websites that take forever to load with my slow modem.

Dario: How about a movie? We could head down to the multiplex.

Brian: No money in my pockets! I'm broke.

Dario: Let's play cards then. That's always good for killing a few hours.

Brian: Ok, but only if we can play for money, maybe I can win enough to go and see a movie later.

2) Vibe: feeling, mood

The main reason that I stay with my girlfriend is because we have a really good vibe between us.

3) Beats: music, usually with heavy drum and bass

Lesson: 课文

We all work hard. We need to do something to relax. But what? There are so many options. You could go to a restaurant with friends, read a book, watch TV, play computer games, sleep or even get a hobby like kite flying.

For some though, these activities are too sedate. Since the dawn of time, people have gathered together to party. Nowadays people often gather in nightclubs and pubs.

Here's an interesting question. What is the difference between a nightclub and a pub? A pub is a place mainly for drinking while a nightclub serves drinks, but is mainly for dancing.

Some simple rules for a safe and successful night of clubbing are as follows:

. No matter how much pressure you get from your mates, don't drink more than you can handle.

. Don't take drugs of any type! They are against the law and can kill you.

. When dancing, be free to express yourself but try not to bump into other people.

. Picking fights is stupid and immature. If you want to fight, go to a boxing club, not a nightclub.

. Try to meet new people and talk or ask them if they want to dance. Clubbing is all about relaxing and making new friends.

Dialogue

Jeff: Did you have a good time last night?

Joan: We started out at a nice restaurant and then went to a pub.

Jeff: What did you do after drinking at the pub?

Joan: We went to a nightclub but the bouncers would not let us in!

Jeff: Why not? Was the nightclub full?

Joan: No. The bouncer said that we were not dressed properly.

Jeff: So what did you do?

Joan: We went to a different nightclub.

Jeff: And how were the beats?

Joan: Pretty good, but this morning I have some serious beats going on in my head!

Jeff: You just have a hangover. Let me make you some breakfast that will get rid of your headache.

Joan: You really do look after me well Jeff.

NEW WORDS 新单词

1) Bills: slang for money
In formal English, bills are things you should pay, like your mobile phone bill. But in slang English, bills means money!

2) Axe: slang for electric guitar
When I was younger I would watch MTV and pretend that my tennis racquet was an axe.

3) Jam: a group of musicians getting together to play for fun
Some of the most famous songs have been written at jams, like She Loves You by the Beatles.
She Loves You.

Jessie: Did you go to the jam with your boyfriend?

Tina: I did! But now I can hardly hear anything.

Jessie: That's bad news. Do you think you should go to the doctor?

Tina: No it's nothing to worry about. The jam was really loud that's all.

Jessie: Do they take the jam seriously?

Tina: Not really, they try to make some good music but have fun while they are doing it.

Jessie: Did you join in?

Tina: No. I can't play any instrument.

Jessie: I will teach you a song about jammin' so that next time you can at least sing along.
