China National Petroleum Company, a main oil investor in South Sudan, is desperately trying to evacuate oil workers from the capital, Juba. But 400 CNPC staff are still waiting to leave.
The Chinese Embassy in Kenya is helping with their evacuation. Shandong High Speed Group, an investor in infrastructure construction, is also flying workers out of the country. As of Saturday, 200 Chinese nationals have been evacuated and are on their way back to China.
Meanwhile, the commander of the Chinese peacekeeping force in South Sudan, Li Qingfeng, has confirmed that his team is safe and well-prepared for any escalation of violence.
