Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Barack Obama have exchanged views on bilateral ties and the Ukrainian situation in a telephone conversation. President Xi said China is ready to work with United States to build the new model of the major-country relationship and to enhance dialogue, mutual trust and cooperation to develop sustainable and healthy relations between China and the US.
Obama said the US hoped that the two countries would also cooperate in major issues. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the US. Meanwhile, the Chinese president also stressed China's objective and fair stance on Ukraine. Xi said it was very important for all parties concerned to remain calm and exercise restraint, to avoid the escalation of the crisis.
