Snowstorm has struck large parts of the eastern United States, causing widespread traffic disruptions.
The state governors of Delaware, New Jersey, Tennessee, and Virginia all declared a state of emergency. The National Weather Service issued a storm warning for the area surrounding Washington DC. People were advised to stay indoors to avoid the low temperatures and icy road conditions.
Schools were closed, bus services halted and most stores closed in the US capital. By Monday, more than 2,000 flights had been cancelled and 5,000 others delayed at airports in Washington DC, New York City and Philadelphia.
