1、both...and 两者都
这个词组表示“两者都......”的意思，用来强调两者协调配合的元素。在使用这个词组的时候，要注意后面动词的单复数形式。这个词组并不适用于就近原则，不管就近的名词和代词是复数还是单数，这个词组后面的动词必须要用复数。
例句：
Both the movie and the play were good.
电影和剧本都很好。
Any such action would have to be approved by both American and Saudi leaders.
任何这样的行动都必须获得美国和沙特领导人双方的批准。
2、aspire to 渴望，有志于
aspire to 后面可以接不定式，apsire to do sth，表示“立志做某事”，也可以在后面接名词或者动名词，表示“渴望做某事”。
例句：
He apire to be a scientist.
他立志成为一名科学家。
As an orphan ,he aspired to care from others very much.
身为孤儿，他非常渴求别人的关心。
3、tiger parents 虎爸虎妈
前几年，国内非常流行虎爸虎妈，指父母对子女的教育非常严格，有的父母为了磨练孩子的意志，甚至让三四岁的孩子在雪地里裸跑。
例句：
Wow, you really are tiger parents!
哇，你们可真是对“tiger parents”!
4、sleepover (儿童或年轻人在某人家玩乐并过夜的)聚会，在外面过夜
例句：
My best friend invited me to her birthday sleepover, which will not end until Saturday noon.我最好的朋友邀请我去参加她的生日彻夜狂欢派对。那将到星期六的中午才会结束。
5、make up for 弥补，补偿
make up for 后面常接名词或者动名词。
例句：
Her husband bought her a present to make up for quarreling with her the day before.为弥补前天吵架的过错，她丈夫给她买了个礼物。
It was only until I decided to make a drastic change in my life that I could make up for this lost time.直到我决定做出人生中的巨大转变，我才弥补上了那些流失的岁月。
6、 figure out 解决;断定;
figure out 是指用脑力或者逻辑思辨能力来解决或者推测出某个问题，常用词组是something/someone 或 figure something/someone out，如果受词是人称代名词，必须放在中间，即figure it out、figure him out。
例句：
We still couldn’t figure out the solution to this problem.
我们还是无法想出这个问题的解决方案。
Sally’s parents can’t figure her out at all.
Sally 的父母对她一点都不了解。
