According to the latest sample survey conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics, the number of people living on the Chinese mainland reached over 1.37 billion in 2015.
That marks an increase of nearly 34 million on 2010, when the sixth national census was conducted.
Over the past five years, the annual average growth rate was 0.5 percent, 0.07 percentage points lower than that during the 2000 to 2010 period.
Males accounted for more than 51 percent of the total population.
The survey covered about 1.5 percent of the total number of people living in China.
