The Forbidden City in Beijing, also known as the Palace Museum, will build a new museum to exhibit more of its huge collection, said the site’s director, Shan Jixiang, at the 2016 International Smart Tourism Conference in Hangzhou on Oct. 23.
北京的紫禁城，也称故宫，将建设一座新的博物院，用以展示其大量的藏品，故宫博物院院长单霁翔于10月23日在杭州举行的2016国际旅游互联网大会上宣布。
Shan said the Forbidden City is currently facing a major problem: most of its massive collections can’t be displayed. Usually, 10 to 20 percent of the collections of major international museums are displayed at any given time. Although the Forbidden City holds over 70 exhibitions every year, only 0.5 percent of its collections have the opportunity to be put on display for visitors. Relevant authorities have therefore approved a new museum for the Forbidden City.
单说，紫禁城目前面临着一个重大的问题：它的大部分藏品无法展示。通常，在任何特定时间内，世界各大博物馆能够展出10%到20%的藏品。虽然紫禁城每年举办70多次展览，但是有机会展示给游客的展品只有0.5％。因此，相关部门批准建一座新的故宫博物院。
Located 25 kilometers from the Forbidden City, the new museum will be situated between the Old Summer Palace and the Ming Tombs and Great Wall. The first stage of the project will cover an area of 125,000 square meters. In addition to displaying many more relics, the cultural relic restoration process will also be showcased in this new museum.
新的博物院距离紫禁城25公里，将位于圆明园、明墓和长城之间。一期工程将占地12.5万平方米。除了展示更多的文物，文物修复过程也将在这个新的博物院展出。
The new museum will be a green and modern structure with zero emissions.
新的博物院将是一个零排放、绿色和现代的结构。
Currently, 76 percent of the Forbidden City is accessible to visitors; by 2025, the figure is set be 85 percent.
目前，紫禁城有76%的区域对游客开放；到2025年计划达到85%。
